Maria Pilar Lorenzo is a PhD Fellow at ²ÝÁñÊÓƵ-CRIS and at Ghent University¡¯s Centre for Higher Education Governance.

Under the supervision of Jeroen Huisman and ²ÝÁñÊÓƵ-CRIS Director Philippe De Lombaerde, Maria Pilar Lorenzo's doctoral research locates higher education in a regionalised world. Aspiring to deepen the dialogue between the study of regionalism and higher education, she employs the lens of Multi-level Governance to investigate regional cooperation in higher education within the context of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations. A recent publication connected to her doctoral research is entitled , published by Globalisation, Societies and Education.

She holds a Master¡¯s degree in International Politics and an Advanced Master¡¯s degree in Cultures and Development Studies both from KU Leuven and a Master¡¯s degree in Public Administration from the University of the Philippines. Her other recent research experiences include a fellowship at the Regional Academy on the United Nations, the Graduate Study Programme at UN Geneva, and various research projects affiliated with the Philippine Society for Public Administration. Prior to pursuing graduate studies, she was a development professional and an educator whose work experience focused on managing and teaching in technical-vocational schools. She is a licensed professional teacher and a certified trainer.
