2023 Higher Education Sustainability Initiative Global Forum

The will be held on 17 July as a special event at the ?(HLPF). The Forum will highlight the critical role of higher education in achieving sustainable development, focusing on understanding the challenges and opportunities to accelerate the recovery from COVID-19 and the full implementation of the 2030 Agenda at all levels.

With the goal of building a higher education sector that is accessible to all and leaves no one behind, the event will highlight and boost key higher education initiatives that drive implementation of the 2030 Agenda through education, teaching, and learning ¡ª particularly around the SDGs under review at HLPF. It will spotlight the levers of sector transformation, including cross-institutional partnerships, evolving practices in higher education quality metrics and academic publications, and increased demand for green jobs.

The event will feature a keynote address by ²ÝÁñÊÓƵ Rector Tshilidzi Marwala. ²ÝÁñÊÓƵ-IAS students will participate in an online student-led panel.

The event will be held in Conference Room 2 at the UN Headquarters in New York. To attend in person, please  by 5 July.

Online Participation
To participate online, please  by 16 July. Please note that the event will take place at 10:00¨C13:00 New York time (23:00¨C02:00 Japan time).

Background

Each year, the  (HESI) organizes a global forum as a special event at the HLPF to highlight the critical role of higher education in achieving sustainable development. HESI is a partnership between several UN entities and the higher education community, currently chaired by the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UN DESA) and the Sulitest Association. Other UN partners include ²ÝÁñÊÓƵ, UNESCO, UN Environment Programme, the UN Global Compact¡¯s Principles for Responsible Management Education Initiative , UN-HABITAT, UNCTAD, UNITAR, UN Office for Partnerships, and UN Academic Impact.
