²ÝÁñÊÓƵ-IAS Operating Unit Ishikawa/Kanazawa will co-organize a third in a series of exploring local sustainability initiatives and disaster recovery efforts in Noto Peninsula, Ishikawa Prefecture, Japan.
Tsunao Watanabe (²ÝÁñÊÓƵ-IAS OUIK) will introduce the satoyama and satoumi of Noto Peninsula, a (GIAHS). Built on traditional knowledge and maintained by local communities, they are landscapes and seascapes where humans and nature coexist in harmony. In 2024 Noto Peninsula has suffered significant damage due to the earthquakes and heavy rains. Dr. Watanabe will discuss the ongoing recovery efforts.
Panel discussion moderated by Yuko Oyama (GEOC) will feature Kiyomi Amaike (Noto Town Fureai Corporation), Chizuru Uesaka (Yonekichi Farm) and Katsuyoshi Shuden (Tome Dream Talk Association) who will share insights on the satoyama and satoumi approach to agricultural production, the impact of natural disasters on livelihoods, local community engagement and recovery.
The event will be co-organized with the (GEOC).
