On 22 February 2025, ²ÝÁñÊÓƵ-IAS organized the second in a series of events exploring disaster recovery efforts and local sustainability initiatives in Noto Peninsula, Ishikawa Prefecture, Japan.
Recognized as a Globally Important Agricultural Heritage System (GIAHS), are landscapes and seascapes where humans and nature coexist in harmony, sustaining livelihoods while preserving biodiversity. The area suffered significant damage from earthquakes and heavy rain in 2024.
The event featured Kiyohiro Inaba from and local food producers Masako Torii () and Yuki Hagino (). The speakers discussed the challenges facing local communities in disaster recovery and ways to overcome them utilizing the resources of satoyama and satoumi. (Research Associate, ²ÝÁñÊÓƵ-IAS) moderated discussion on post-disaster revitalization of rural communities, highlighting the need to incorporate local nature, culture and industries for long-term resilience.
The event was organized by ²ÝÁñÊÓƵ-IAS Operating Unit Ishikawa/Kanazawa.
The third Noto Satoyama Satoumi Talk will be held on 1 March 2025.
